Why do hot water tanks only break on the weekends or in the middle of the coldest day of the year?

My old house it -5 degrees and tank was in the garage and I had to do the work myself.

This time it just happened to be the weekend. If it wasn't for home warranty I might be a little ticked and trying to do it myself right now. With stomach pain and a tore rotator cuff that might not be good. So I will just sit here and watch the plumber work. New Rheem 40 gallon is going to cost me 55 dollar deductible, 25 dollar city permit and 20 dollar haul off fee. That's better than the 650 plus fees if I didn't have the warranty.

Or when you have a house full of guests planning to stay for a week.

That's usually when my kitchen sink plugs, on a holiday. Believe it or not I actually had to put on sweat pants instead of shorts this morning.

Seems like things like that happen when you have guest you want or a game that needs to be seen. Seems like you never have problems like when mother-in-law is in town.

Ours was Christmas day 2 years ago. Luckily my dad's work had a sewer snake the he was able to borrow.

Did not know we got to -5 in Oklahoma I know it got to -20 in North Dakota

Trust me when your standing in the garage putting in a hot water tank actual temp which might have been 5 means nothing. You get every bit of the windchill that is circling around an opened garage door. And record low actual temp in Oklahoma is like -25 give or take a few set back in the 30's or 40's, so yes we do get to -5 every year actual temp.

My hot water heater is behind a wall in the furnace chamber... in a space that is about 30 x 30 inches and about 40 inches high.... the only access through the master bedroom closet. Putting one in in the garage would be a snap by comparison... all water access is under the floor - hence under the house.
