I would like to get a small metal vise for my shop (I don't know why I don't have one of these). I always find myself needing this and always having to come up with some poor mans rig to get done what I need to.

So, the two I'm looking at are a Wilton and a Bessey.

What would you suggest? I'm open to any other suggestions, but no more than $50 and it has to have a small anvil area.

Thanks

Another one you might want to look at is from Woodcraft
it is a Groz 4" Reversible #147873. It is on clearance at $22.99 (Down from $51.99)

Man, these things seem to be a dime a dozen.

Thanks for the other suggestions. Something to think about for sure.

So as far as quality goes for a $50 vise, is one the same as another?

I suspect that for vises in the $50 range almost all of them will be made in China. That being said, I find that Wilton makes pretty good products and have a good reputation.

I have the vise from Lowe's and it works well. I does not two important features. It has a way to hold round items and a small flat area toward the back that is good for flattening things.
