Just curious.

I had some trouble with gaboon ebony, and nigerian ebony.

I've got cocobolo on my agenda, and I'm wondering how it does with CA.

Perhaps the harder species are tough with CA? I don't have a whole lot of CA experience so far.

Thanks.

I think it's more the oily woods than the harder woods. Cocobolo can create some issues if its not cleaned well. I had trouble getting CA to stick to manzanita root burl.

CA on cocobolo looks a lot like

I was having problems with CA finishing until I started using Fangar's method:

I made some tiny changes to the process to suit my needs, but since then I've done an ebony, cocobolo, and a bocote and they all turned very good. I'm like you short on experience, so this link may help a little with some good wood choices:

I've got to be honest I wasn't having much fun with finishing until I started using Fangar's method. I owe Fangar a lot of thanks.

I have difficulty with CA or CA/BLO on African Blackwood. The finish is very splotcy. The CA does not want to stick to certain areas. Tried wiping down with DNA but the same splotches showed thru. Now I make sure I keep the towel over the finish until I am sure the CA has long since set. By smearing the CA around as it sets, that covers the areas that seem to repell the CA.
