Back around March 9 - 12 I sent 12 members jr Gent 1 RB to FP conversions - asking only that they send me back a report on how they worked. So far I have gotten no reports except one person did say they went together ok and one person said they wrote OK. No one else replied.

If you got these conversions and have used them please PM telling me how they work and what you think of the FP's. So I can decide if I want to offer conversions or Jr Gent 1 Fountain Pens.

At the same time I sent two Jr Gent 1 FP kits to 5 people who were to make a FP for me with 1 kit and keep the other for themselves. So far 1 person sent me a Pen --- that person kindly sent me an extra Polaris click ballpoint pen.

If you are the member who sent me the pen and the ballpoint please PM me because I lost your id.

If you received the kits and haven't sent a pen yet, You can just forget it and keep both pens for yourself.

That kinda stinks. Sorry you didn't get the anwers and results you wanted.
I've got an order with you for the rhodium gent I, if you want to put a fp converter in there when they come I'll let you know how it works post haste.
Heck, I'll even send it to you to check out.

I don't have anymore conversions....and can't get any right now because my supplier is out of nibs. But thank you for offering.

You know smitty I just don't know whats wrong with people anymore. Please don't judge all here at IAP by a sad few. Most here would do your pens for you.Seeing all the good deals you do for us.Please don't judge all, just due to a few bad ones.

I wondered what happened with those...
I was waiting to hear if they worked out or not.
Is it a matter of just unscrewing the RB coupler and replacing it with the FP conversion?
I hope someone will come forward and do a review with photos showing what they found out!

So the lesson learned here is............. when you ask for folks to help evaluate something, don't just pick the first dozen who volunteer, try to pick a few adults out of the crowd who would be more likely to follow through with a commitment!

I'm not judging anyone....life is too short. They probably just forgot and I can't fault anyone for forgetting -- not at my age when remembering my name is the start of a good day.

Take your time....There is no rush

smitty,

I would be glad to help you in the future on any project. I would not need you to provide extra kits for me just send what you want made or tested. And in a week it will be back in your hands. I have bought a lot of your stuff and been happy with all the kits.

Smitty,

I was one of those who volunteered to try the RB-FP conversions. I received the conversions, but before I had a chance to make a pen with them, you emailed me this:

Hi, It looks like this experiment is off, Fred found that the caps will not screw onto the new couplers I sent with these kits. With all the problems with this experiment I am giving up --- you can try the couplers (they won't mate with the "center band") and if they work for you fine keep going - if not you can just put the conversions in your parts box. I'm sorry.

I will be getting new nib and ink cartridges shortly and will ask you to try them - they should use the same coupler as the rollerballs so the fuss and bother should be out of the picture.

I took that to mean that you weren't interested in further feedback. I apologize if that wasn't the case. I seem to recall that the sections didn't mate with the existing kit somehow, but I'm not sure just how anymore. Anyway, I set the parts aside and have since lost track of them. I'll be happy to try the conversion again if I can find them.

I never did see an offer to try a replacement section.

If you ever do get a screw-in conversion kit for the JrGent I, I'd still be interested. I'd like the option of a convertable rollerball/fountain pen.

Sincerely,
Eric

Smitty, do keep this avenue of inquiry. I will have 50 of these Junior gents out in the wild someday and do like the ability to make a fountain pen or 10 out of them.

My apologies. I will attribute it to age because I forgot until you reminded me...there were two sets of conversions mailed out, The first set the FP nibs were threaded differently than the RB nibs. The second bunch they were the same. I did call off the first group....I'm still working on getting something but might have a problem with the Gold TN and Rhodium because they don't usually stock the tips/nibs for them. Chrome I might be able to work pretty easily..

Simple conversion

The conversion itself is quite easy, you simply install an ink cartridge, remove the spring and install the nib into the nib coupler - but I had not sold many fountain pens and didn't know how they wrote. I now have two of them that I am using here at home and they seem decent and reasonably smooth to me but I have very little experience with fountain pens and wanted others opinions. I am satisfied that they are good enough to offer them and unless one or more of the people I asked to test them chime in or send me pens I'll have to use my own judgement.

Leroy,

I must have been in the first group because mine didn't thread in directly. The thread pattern as reported was different.

If you have some that are direct conversions, I have made several of your JG I styles that people would rather have had as Fountains. I would be interested in trying a set that threads in correctly.....

Thanks!

Fred

Gave them all out

I'll look, I might have 2 but I think I gave them all out.

I believe I was in the first group too. I still have mine and just tried them and they don't thread in a jr gent 1.

And doing a quick look it appears the threads on the conversions are finer threads than the other piece.

They are exactly like the ones from the fountain pen kits. It appears the inside threads of the lil black adapter pieces are threaded different for rollerballs and fountain pens. I sure didn't know that...

HMMM

If you have the ones where the threads are the same on the FP and RB tips they should both thread into a RB coupler and probably not into an old FP coupler. The kits have been changed now so both use the same coupler. The picture shows the old FP nib threads - if they look like that they use a different coupler....if they look exactly like the RB they are the new ones and should work in a RB coupler.

I pulled mine from my stock, been awhile since I've made a jr gent 1 so I couldn't say if I got new stock or old stock. I bought some this weekend but they were all gun metal.
