I would like to start getting some idea's for a special trip for my family for my 10 year anniversary. I still have about a year to decide but I need to start getting an idea of how much I need to start saving. I want it to be a total surprise for the family.It is in December and we live in Utah so as much as we would love to go to a Scandinavian country, I think something a little warmer would be nice.

So now that you have some background info:

Where in the world would you go and why?

We went to http://www.beyc.com for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. It's a great place for adults, and they have activites for kids too. If you sail (we don't, but would like to learn), you have full access to their sailing fleet. They also have motorized dinghies that you can use to tool around and visit other resorts on the island and neighboring islands. They also have free day trips to other islands, dailing snorkeling trips, and the like. It was absolutely beautiful, and we look forward to our son getting a little older so we can take him there too. I'll send you an E-mail with a private link to pictures from the resort and the surrounding area.
 
Had my honeymoon in Aruba. Safe place, not as expensive as most islands, no hurricanes, and the local people were absolutely the freindliest you could possibly imagine. Get an all inclusive place, it is the way to fly, Sonesta is a great place if you have kids....
 
New Zealand. December is the middle of their summer, and regardless of when you go, this is THE most beautiful place on the face of the earth. Lodging is not expensive, the exchange rate is extremely US-favorable, the people are wonderful, and there is something for everyone, no matter what you like to do. Both the North and South Islands are incredible, and as different as night and day. Volcanoes, geothermal springs, the Mauri culture, beautiful beaches, hiking, mountain climbing, incredible fjords...

Have a great time wherever you go, though. :)

Ok but just remember you asked where I would go............

Muenster, Texas to ride the trails at Red River Cycle Park. Should have a late winter this year and this should lead to a good time to ride the trails. [:)]

Well you are right I did ask, but I was thinking of something a little more adventures. Anything in my own state I can usually do just about anytime. Since you like to ride also, you might like this trail.

I second Nancy's suggesytion of New Zealand!! Everything see said is absolutely true. Only problem is that it is on the exact opposite side of the Earth and a very pricey plane ride.

Been there twice...on the governments nickel...and would visit again in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself.
 
If you want to leave the country, I'd vote with Nancy and Randy. Had a marvelous time there. <s>If</s>When I go back , will rent a camper van...I think that can cut your expense down considerably. In March, we paid about $1000 from LAX to AKL on Air NZ (their 747s are all refurished and nice)...but sit toward the front...the rear of our ship was bouncing all nite both ways...fortunately we were forward of the galleys.

Ryan ..... drop by a doctor's office, preferably a specialist's who is in the upper upper income bracket of all doctors .... like, a neurosurgeon or anestheologist. Then, look around in the waiting room and grab his copy of the magazine "Diversions". Ever seen it? It's full of ideas for ways to spend big dollars. You'll find all kinds of exotic places for vacations.
If you can't find a copy of "Diversions", well .... there's always Macon, Georgia!

As it turns out I will be having a BBQ tomorrow with a very wealthy Doctor. He was/is an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. He also owns the Megadyne Corporation. They make specialty instruments.

Maybe he will buy enough pens as "Thanks for you business gifts" to pay for this trip[:D][:D]

Thanks for the link. A few of my riding partners are looking for areas to hit over the next couple of years. So far we are looking at going to New Mexico, South Texas, Oklahoma and Colorodo. We have a few other places in mind to look into like Moab and Baja so this link is great for what looks like a great place to ride.

A trail ride through the jungles of S. America would be a blast. So I'll change my original trip location from Muenster to S. America.
 
Haven't ever been there but we have some friends that traveled to NZ and have done nothing but brag about how great it was, even brought me back some woodturnings to look at. Personally we go to NYC, great food and something for eveyone to do. Went there for our 25th (first real vacation by ourselves in about 18 years since the kids were finally old enough to stay home) and intend to go back this year for our 30th. Of course since we live in Florida where we have no income tax due to the genrousity of all you nice free-spending tourists contributing to our sales tax fund, I would like to see you come here and spend all the $$$ you can. [8D] Keep Florida green, bring cash! [8D]
 
I'd go to the Barrier Reef!! Take a live-aboard trip down the reef and do some diving (if you dive) or snorkeling (if you don't). Even small kids can get into snorkeling safely and gleefully. As a diver I can swear that the reef has the best diving I've ever seen. Then go ashore in Cairns or Townsville and go touring, go see the aquarium, cuddle a koala, feed a kangaroo, etc. Go shopping, go hiking, let the kids learn how to play a didgeridoo (sp?), go rafting -- unbeatable. Lifetime memories!

Sorry, I forgot the why part. The weather is perfect. No language barrier. It's comparativly close to you and its very very casual. The snorkeling is awesome, reefs within 20 feet from shore. Where else can see a rain forest, volcano, beach, cactus and hula girls all within an hours drive.

Ryan I would have to say Australia mate. You have beautiful Queensland, my home state, you have the beaches and beauties of the Sunshine and Gold Coast areas as well as the heritage listed Diantree Forest and some of the finest timbers that Queensland has to offer. You have Victoria down south where your Red and Brown Mallee come from, and some of the best scenery along the Great Ocean Road. In Tasmanian where you have some of Australia's oldest growth forests, home of giant Huon Pines, Tasmanian Blackwood, Myrtle and Blackheart Sassafras just to name a few. From Kakadu in the Northern Territory in the top end to the harshness of Alice Springs and Ayres Rock out west to the lush forests of the Eastern Coast from Queensland down to Tasmania, Ryan you can't go past Australia.
All I can say is that to stand in a Tasmanian rainforest in front of a Huon Pine that is over 600yrs old and to smell the crisp fresh air and listen to the silence, man there is nothing like it. The silence encompasses you, and I was just in awe and honoured that I was allowed the opportunity to be in it's presence. May sound silly but untill you do it I guess it is a hard thing to explain. As I said honoured, humble and lucky. Ryan come to Australia mate you will never regret it.
