Always cut your tenons after finishing. Finish will gather in corner of the tenon otherwise. If you are nervous that the tenon is unfinished, touch it up with a small paintbrush and lacquer.
My drumbeat says to cut the tenon first. If you screw it up you haven't wasted time with all the rest of the work. Never thought I would be criticial of Lou's statements regarding finishing......but [] ...as I apply finish I just use my fingernail to make sure finish is on the tenon and the little corners are clean. Be sure to remove the tool rest when using fingers on a moving item.
I do the same, Ron. I've never had any problems with the finish build up, Lou. Course not many ever say how good my pens look either![] Frank, I agree no sense wasting extra effort and screwing up at the last minute. I do that often enough, I just don't want to do it intentionally, if you know what I mean.[B)]
