Our pellet stove ate a gasket on Christmas day. Since that is our primary heat source we were screwed. Out came the space heaters that we use to use to heat boat engine compartments to keep them from freezing, to help out of Sahara IR heater that handles the back part of the house. My father in law's house is not small. Thank goodness it was not too cold that night. I drove over to the stove repair place to see if they had a sign that said when they were opening up. No sign. I hoped they would be open on the 26th but did not hold my breath. Went bright and early the next morning and there was a sign that said they would be opening the 27th. Went on the 27th and there was a sign that said they would be opened the 28th. Went home and started making calls to nearby towns. No one carried the gasket but they could get it in ten days. no one wanted to try and get it over night even though I asked. We were planning to leave on the 28th for Cortez to hang with my parents, so I called there and one person said they might have it. Turns out they did not but had one that, if I trimmed it, would work. I ordered some real gaskets while we were there. We got home Sunday evening. I trimmed the gasket punched the holes and installed it. Worked like a charm, but the stove quickly started burning like poo. Local stove place was closed on the second. I went up to our business on the second and found half the shop area covered in waste oil. I had taken the waste oil heater apart a month ago for repairs and thought I had disconnected the power. At some point in the time we were gone the thermostat tripped and fired up the pump. The result is a nightmare. 14 bags of absorbent later and I think I am 3/4 finished with the clean up. I get to go back to my regular job tomorrow too. Going to be some late nights to finish the clean up.

On a positive note all the pens I made for Christmas were well received and I am getting some much needed cleaning and redecoration done at the shop.

How has your year begun?

 I don't know if that waste oil burns outside of the heater, but I suppose you are lucky it didn't catch on fire. Glad it didn't.....
Hope you get back to warmth and some kind of a normal day!

The shop is kept at 40 degrees right now.

Some old codger came in to buy a part and saw the mess. He suggested that I get about 4 of those propane heaters and aim it at the oil spill. If I heated up the oil it would soak into the absorbent quicker. I asked if I should inform my insurance before or after the big explosion.

Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel you are seeing is not a freight train coming at you. It has just got to get better from here.
