Another MM question

What is the difference between MM and wet and dry sandpaper. I use W&D up to 1500grit. Now I know that MM goes up to 12000 grit but I believe there is a comparison chart.

Where on MM grading would the W&D 1500 grit fall.

Sorry if it seems like a stupid question but us canny scotts hate spending money needlessly:D:D:D:D

Beware of conversion charts for the different abrasive mediums. They don't tell the whole story. There is a difference in the shape of the particle, how the medium is manufactured, and the allowable deviation from the specified grit size. Micro-Mesh is made by a process that puts a more uniform distribution of particle sizes on the sheet, and this leaves a more uniform scratch pattern on the surface.

I have to agree with Russ, not all sand paper is created equal, I know a lot of "400" grit feels more like 80 grit and leaves just as deep of a scratch than other brands sheck out your paper supplier and get the best you can afford, MM is one of the better polishing papers around.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this. Go back and take a look at the charts provided by Alfred and Tracy and you will notice that the correlations between ANSI and MM sizes are different on the two charts. I wonder which one we are to believe.....maybe neither??
