What's the Difference Between "What's New" and "New Posts"

I see these two categories of posts ... "What's New" is in the blue bar at the top, and underneath there is a second horizontial list with "New Posts" at the beginning of it.

What is the difference ?

And then there is the "Latest Activity" category ... and it seems to come and go ... not always visible.

With the "old" forum software, there used to be a listing on the home page of the very latest threads created ... approximately the last 10 created.
I really miss that feature. I see that with the "new" software we have on the home page a listing of "Recent Threads" ... perhaps that is the same.

For me "New Posts" filters unread content to the top whereas "What's New" includes everything without any filter (sorted by most recent). The "new posts" only shows 6 threads that are the most recent "unread" and then follows by the rest that have not changed since my most recent visit.
