My wife & I lucked into some nice Rib Eye steaks at the local grocery store this weekend on sale. So, we are having those with baked potatoes, and a side salad.
It's too hot to grill outside, so I'm doing them under the broiler instead.
Not the same, but better than nothing.

Steaks are a real treat for us, but for $6/lb. you can't beat it.
I honestly can't remember the last one we had.

Whatcha guys having for din din tonite?

The family had a small beef roast last night. All gone. But lots of gravy leftover. So I will be browning some hamburger with celery and spices from the garder and mixing it all together. Then serving it over mash potatoes or rice. One of our 'comfort' meals make.

Steak is going through the roof here. $6 is at the bottom end here. However, what we have done is look harder at the roasts. We have a deli slicer and we cut our own steaks from the roasts. Little pieces left over become stew meat or soup meat.

We do the same with pork loins. Cut our own boneless pork chops. We can package them the amout we need for a meal. I always save the larger end of the loin for a roast.

Last winter hamburger here was crazy. $4 and higher. With beef roasts at $3.60 it paid for us to buy them in bulk. Take them home and cut out the bests as steak and then grind what was left as hamburger. Yes, we have a grinder for making sausage also. We enjoy making things like this. And we can really trim things down the way we like them.

Enjoy your steaks today!

We really lucked out. The steak we got was regularly $13.99/lb.
They had a sale on it Saturday for $5.77/lb.
I figured they would be out of it, but the store was a ghost town for some reason. Ground chuck 80/20 goes for $2.99/lb. here on sale.

We don't eat a lot of meat as a rule, but we do eat a lot of fish & chicken. Since chicken is so cheap, we usually have it 2-3 times a week on average.
When chicken goes on sale we usually stock up, because it only goes on sale every 3-4 weeks as a rule.

All groceries have gone up at least 200% in my area in the last 3 years. :frown:

I found one of those treasures, too. A package of lambchops for 6 bucks a pound! I wrapped them in bacon and grilled them

Yum.

Monday's are long days for me. I go to dialysis right after work. I usually get home around 10pm. That doesn't leave much for dinner. Most likely it will be a bowl of Pops or Kellog's Frosted Flakes!!

MMMMM, Steaks! My son likes to refer to us as meatatarians. We picked up some nice sirloins yesterday for $7/pound. However, the weeks menu says we don't get them til Friday.

Tonite, we'll have Johnsonville Steakhouse Onion Grillers. (bratwurst patties)

My wife got a marked down beef brisket for under $20.00 and cooked it yesterday.

It was great. So tonight I will probably have more brisket with rice and gravy.

We had hamburgers cooked on the grill and corn wrapped with bacon. Yes bacon makes everything better. Long Live PETA!!!

Well, even my wife (who is the fussiest eater I've ever met) said the steaks were really good. I had to cook them under the broiler. They sure were tender.
