Folks,

I have been asked to make some wood pens as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen foundation. What was suggested was natural wood with a good pink influence. What I was planning to do is dye and stabilize some sort of wood to get the pink highlights with a nice pattern of wood. I tried some BEB and BAB but maybe every 3rd piece was penetrated enough to get me the necessary pink or would be overly grey too.

Anyone have any ideas on what would take a good soaking and give me the look I am trying to achieve?

I've had excellet results with pink dye and soft Maple, Beech and Ash. Light colors with tight grains seem to work well with dyes.

Your milage may vary! Good luck!

Mike, my answer sort of avoids your question but gets the same results. Turn the pen light colored wood of your choice. Now apply a pink highlighter as a top coat of colors. Just be sure the highlighter is light fast ink and it will work well. This method lets you turn the pen and still get the colors you want since pink is a standard highlighter color
