Since reading all of the great reviews, I switched over to Abranet (sp?)! Before that I used the cloth rolls of 5 grits. This is for dry.

For wet I use micromesh.

Abranet,

usally,

320 -> 400 -> 600 -> 2400mm -> 3200mm -> 3600mm -> 4000mm -> 6000mm ->8000mm -> 12000mm

Sometimes if I need to do a little shaping, I'll start with 240.

Because of my other projects in the past I have great quantites of sand paper that include Abernet and MM. BUt that also includes sheets,discs, and belts. My grits range from 40 up to 2500 and then the MM ranges. I may sand my pen blanks up to 1200g and then jump over to mm starting at 4000.

I've used norton 3x for alot of my stuff, but I have a hard time finding it easily above 400 grit...

I recently try the stuff that ed sells at exoticblanks (comes up to 1500 grit) and its just as good (at the lower grits, and is excellent at the higher counts. Much better than the black automotive stuff i tried as a substitute. Its klingspor and is really good stuff.

I use Klingspor Sterate Aluminum Oxide paper(this is what Ed has)it's available from 60 up to 1500. I order it from Klingspor in 9x11 sheets, cut it up into small pieces. I usually order 400-1500 grit. It's a good quality paper, long lasting, doesn't load up like some papers and doesn't lost it's grit. It's all I ever use other that the occasional MM polishing pads for "plastics" I feel need to be wet sanded. It's reasonably priced at $2.95 for a pack of 5 so my normal order of 6 different grits is usually around 18 bucks and they ship fast. I normally get it in 3-4 days. This usually lasts me the better part of a year.

I've been using 3M sanding sponges for the last few months... I find them easier to control, and they conform to the curves of my design really well.

One of these days when I can figure out how to post pics on this forum I'll actually show off some of my work ;)
