So I picked up a few boxes and bags of random cut offs from a luthier. He was a bit rushed when I met him and for the price I got the wood for I did not want to be a bother having him start to identify wood types. I turned a random piece this AM and was not certain what it was, so I'm reaching out to the hive mind. Some photos and a brief video below. There is some chatoyancy to it. Does not smell or feel like cocobolo to me for what that is worth.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year Y'all.

Black walnut or possibly Acacia ? Just to throw a curve ball
Ive wondered about the walnut. I was trying to do a bit of reading on the types of wood used for making guitars. Based on the thickness of the wood, I was guessing it was for the body rather than something like a fretboard. I've read that mahogany is also used, but I dont have any mahogany blanks to compare against (nor Acacia for that matter)

I agree with the walnut, but maybe not black. Maybe claro or peruvian? It just seams a hair too fair for regular black walnut.
