You can open an on-line account with the USPS and buy and print Priority and Express mail labels. You can't do First Class mail with USPS on-line. I use Stamps.com and have been happy with them but they're around $15./month. You can mail any type of USPS package with them. There's also a back door into PayPal where you can print labels.

I print USPS postage through PayPal for a cheaper rate than USPS directly. Then just put it in my mailbox and off it goes with the mail.

Use USPS through paypal's multi-order shipping so I can use my Brother QL-5xx printer to print postage labels. The USPS website was also doing this but last time I tried, I didn't see the option. I was in too much of a hurry to investigate more.

One caveat - don't drop a box over 13 ounces in a mailbox. They may not take it... It's a security thing. I believe it's really only supposed to stamped mail, but try fighting with a USPS employee sometime. But they will pick them up from the house, there's an option on the website.

BTW - if you ship a lot, it's worth it to get the little Brother QL series printer. Postage prints on little 2 1/4" wide strips with addressing, delivery confirmation, etc. all included in the price. They go one sale about once a month or 2 at rakuten.com (used to be buy.com - WTH would you change from buy.com to rakuten.com?!?). This printer: http://www.rakuten.com/prod/brother-ql-700-high-speed-professional-label-printer/225037604.html was $35 on Jult 8th. But if you want one, get on the email list and check it daily. It won't be available for long.

Yup, USPS. I have an Etsy shop so I buy through them at a discount, print the label and put it in the mail box. I have a pick up confirmation online shortly after it is picked up (they carrier a bar code scanner).

I do this also but only when someone pays via paypal. Can labels with postage be printed via paypal for those who don't pay with PayPal? I have not found a way to do that.
Do a good turn daily!

I use paypal labels on every pkg possible. If over 13 oz I just take them inside and hand them to a postal clerk.

They are supposed to take them as the rule only applies to stamped mail, but it's hit or miss if they know that. My local PO has a bin for them, I just put them in there - no waiting in line. The trick is getting out of work before they close.

Only stamped mailpieces weighing 13 oz or less can be put in a blue collection box, Post Office lobby drop, USPS self-service kiosk drop, or any other unattended location.
If your mailpiece weighs more than 13 oz and is bearing only stamps as postage, you'll need to take it to the retail counter of a Post Office™, Contract Postal Unit, or Approved Shipper location. If left in a mailbox, it won't be picked up; if dropped in a collection box or lobby drop, it will be returned to you.

I got tired of standing in line at my local post office too. So I looked up addresses for other post offices in my area. As it turned out, I was about equal distance from two post offices, with a third about an extra half mile away. I tried these and found one to be nearly empty most of the time. So if I need to speak with a postal worker, I now go directly to that post office.

One reason I like to go to the post office is that I send pens via Priority Mail. The Postman puts on the postage and the package is immediately entered into the tracking database as having been shipped. Other methods give a vague message online, saying "electronic documents received" but not specifically whether it was shipped. Sometimes it is not until the package is delivered that the correction is made to the status. It is something to consider, particularly if you have a customer who is in a hurry.
