What kind of Tree is this?

There are a few of these near where I live.They are kind of rare.I only know of one other place 40 miles from where these are.They might be spreading. Todd

It is obviously a feral shoe tree. This is what happens when a domesticated shoe tree escapes to the wild.

Be careful turning. The wood my be quite stringy. I also bet it smells worse than antler or bone while its being turned!

Gosh, and to think that I actually believed my dad when he told me "Take care of your sneakers because they don't grow in trees you know." Now if I can only find that money tree.........
