OK, I've decided to bite the bullet and get a CBN wheel for my grinder. My only CPM10 tool I have is a scraper that I want to put a burr on. Eventually I want to get more CPM10 tools, but for now, I'm only going to be using the scraper.

For putting a burr on a scraper would 180 or 80 be a better grit?

My Porter Cable grinder can only take a 1" wheel.

Not sure about which grit is better, but as far as only getting a 1" wheel, look into things a little more. Most of the time people remove the guards when using CBN wheels so that will not limit you. If the shaft is too short, D-way tools provides a bushing with a recess that may work with your grinder. I would give him a call to see what you can use. He can probably answer you grit question also. The website is d-waytools.com.

For reference, Capn Eddie has the 8" variable speed Porter Cable from Home Depot, and he uses 1 1/2" wheels.

I purchased both grits. I do not see a huge difference. they cut so well the tools are sharp. I have a delta 8", I used some small screws with nuts and spaced the side guards it slightly, they cover the wheel. I. am not home but the wheels are probably 1-1/2. I think the 180 would be my choice if I were to get only one of them and don't for get you will probably need the bushing for your particular grinder shaft..

I do not miss redressing the wheel before sharpening.

Good Luck
