I try to use medium (gap filling) CA when possible.

When I use metal segments, such as copper, brass or aluminum, I have found that Loctite 5 minute epoxy has a far smaller failure rate in my shop.

HOWEVER, using epoxy on segmented blanks (particularly herringbone designs) is messier than trying to eat a soup sandwich.

expanding polyurethane glue
unless you clamp the pieces you have a chance of spreading the pieces apart.
CA and accelerator is an instant set

i just made my blank and turned it i can see the tube where i glued i will have to try again..

on a side note i can not pull the top of the pen off to get at the ink refill

I always use loctite 5 minute Epoxy I have only had one or two blanks come apart out of countless blanks I have made. The only thing that I use CA for is finish

I use CA for everything. I use the thin ( quicker) one for most joints and sometimes the thicker ( slower ) one where I need a little time.
I degrease ( with isopropanol alcohol) all metal just before gluing.
