Ok here is the question why is it that some posts to the new post area stays there for what seems days on end but others are sent back to the forums that they are posted under? I am not saying my work is anything special but I made a post today at around 3:00est and checked on later and it was still in the new post area now at 10:30est it has moved to the forum that I put it under. I have only posted a few things and all of them seem to done that. Is that the people that post the most stays on the new post area the longest? I get a lot of good tips here and will keep logging in from time to time to see the new items posted. Thanks for the ear

Well, it's because there were no new posts in it for a while and the forum is busy.

I don't use the front page, so I never see the "new posts" area... though I probably should, to see the pens posted there by Jeff. :)

It's not the people that post the most ... it's the threads that receive the most posts. If it's busy, it will stay up there a long time, but if it's not, it will fall off very fast. This is why I don't use the feature ... I use the forums themselves, and any forum with a light blue folder color has a new post for me to explore, while the darker blue have had no changes.

When I'm done checking things out, I use the link at the very bottom of the forums that marks all threads as read (dark blue) so that when I come back, I know what's new and what's not.

Nothing gets moved anywhere. It stays in the forum you post it in. All members are treated equally by the server - what you see has absolutely nothing to do with who posts the most.

What you are seeing depends on which view of new posts you're looking at (active topics or new posts). If you are looking at "New Posts", it will appear there whenever there is a new post since you've last visited. If you are looking at active topics, it will show generally under "Today" for 24 hours from the post time.

And I do the exact opposite :). I only look through the forums if I am looking for something specific. 97.825% of the time I just click on the "New Post" link on the top and see what is new. This way I see everything at once and don't miss out on a deal because I didn't see it.

And if nothing new has been posted to your post since the last time you looked at it.........then you will find it in the section you posted it in. That doesn't mean it isn't on the front page of the 'new posts'. It still is on other peoples front page, Just not on your front page.
