when your turning a kitless obviously you can use a chuck of the blank for the feed assembly but some guys are using black stuff as a an accent for the lack of a better term... what is this ?? A black PR black? or corian or something????

it can be a variation of materials. You can make it out of anything really, as long as it will hold the threads. But to answer your question it's probably Ebonite or black Alumilite. PR will thread but it's a bit tricky and prone to breaking. Corian threads nicely too and it's cheap!
