Here is a piece of cherry that has been sitting in my shop for over a year(I have 2 chunks), I just cut some up into blanks and was wondering if it was worth stabilizing (some punkiness). The turned piece was stabilized and then sanded to 400 grit and has a great shine without buffing. The blanks are just sprayed with some DNA to bring out the colors.

Those are very nice blanks that will inturn make nice pens. I'm not one to stabilize all wood but if it's soft I think stabilizing really helps. Even if the tools are sharp and you go slow and easy with your cuts sometimes the wood poors open up or looks pitted. I've also tried keeping it saturated with ca and the pens looked good but when I stabilized the same wood the overall look was quite better. I truley like the burls so I think it would be worth it as far as the finished product goes but as far as dollar amount goes it's up to you.

Fantastic looking Cherry !! Will make excellent looking pens. I would make the larger pens, so as to retain as much grain as possable. Looking forward to photo of the finished pens. Jim S

Thanks for the input, I guess what I was asking was if anyone thought these were worth stabilizing. I have 4 pots setup for stabilizing right now and was just wondering what others thought of these blanks.
