What do I need to drill on the lathe?

I am in the process of setting up my new shop, and am wanting to drill on the lathe do to space as well as consistency. But I'm not sure what I need... I have seen Nova Chucks and collet Chucks.... I can't for the life of me figure out what I need!

you need a Jacobs Chuck in whatever morse taper you have. Go to woodcraft rockler PSI Craft supplies any of their websites and search for them. They come in key and keyless.

You can hold the blank in a regular 4 jaw if your starting with a square blank, or 3 jaw chuck or a collet chuck if they blank is already round. As Curt mentions you will need a drill chuck in the tailstock with the proper morse taper to fit your lathe. A collet chuck may be an advantage to you. They support the blank all the way around and if you get one that lets you push the blank deep into the through hole better yet. THe ones like Beal Tool sells is an example of that rather than a collet chuck on an MT shaft.

Yep Jacobs Chuck for the tail stock.

For the head stock you need a chuck to hold the blanks. I among others here use a G3 Nova Chuck with the pen plus jaws. Although other jaws can be used in a pinch.
