I used a Bolt Action Bullet pen kit from PSI and used Deer Antler for the outside. I had no problem creating this pen and gave it to a friend of mine. He notified several days later that the bottom half of the pen would not stay in the brass tube. He gave me the pen to look at and I agree that the bottom part of the pen (not where the clip is, the other end) is very loose and will not stay in the brass tube. Of all the pens I have made I have never had this happen before. I used CA glue and fixed it. I am not sure if this will be a permanent fix or not. Does someone have an idea of why this happened and what would be the best way to fix it?

Thanks for any help

Thoughts:

1) inside of the tube was warn down from too vigorously removing glue from inside the tube. I did this once when I used a file when I couldn't find my trusty pocket knife, which does a great job.

2) There is a little manufacturing variance in these things. Sometimes, you just get a looser than normal fit.

Either way, a good glue job (I used epoxy if memory serves) took care of the issue as far as I know.

What InvisibleMan said. If this is a local friend, swing by and take a look at the pen. CA can turn very brittle, and simply gripping the pen and pushing on the nib with the thumb can break that nib end free again. DAMHIK!! Epoxy would be a better solution.

Glue up issue. And please!!!...make sure you are wearing high end breathing protection. Antler will always!! always cause pulmonary fibrosis. You can cure that by finding a lung transplant...there is no other option. Make great pens and be around for your family. If you don't the appropriate breathing gear...stop turning and buy it.

I agree with the above solutions, The reason it happened may be that your end user put it in his pocket and actually bent the pen or applied enough sideways force to loosen the end of it. I had a customer that killed three different pens fairly quickly before figuring out he kept putting in his back pocket and sitting on them.
