Well, tomorrow starts the "silly season" here.
I live in a place where the TOTAL population of two of the largest counties in Georgia (by land mass) and Georgia is the largest U.S. State East of the Mississippi river is LESS than 40,000 people. Greene County doesn't have a Wal-Mart and Putnam County doesn't have a Home Depot. Apparently there was a coin toss some time ago and the winner got to pick which store they wanted.
There IS, however, a state-of-the-art movie theater with adult beverages, and a great restaurant. OVER 200 holes of some of the best golf in the world that you can only play if you are a member (or an accompanied guest of a member), 2 lakes with "valet" boat parking and service. FOUR limo services, and the flagship of the Ritz Carlton's Hotel chain. We have an airport that would embarrass O'hare in Chicago, and several nice airports and heliports.
Tomorrow, our two tiny towns swell to a summer population of over 150,000. The Funny thing is that there is only three hotels and three bed/breakfast mansions. All of the additional 110,000 people own homes here, behind gates.
Not complaining, (the prices for pens triples tomorrow), and real estate market goes WAY UP, tomorrow.
The down side is that the actors, entertainers,athletes/coaches, and MOSTLY the national politicians can be a handful to accommodate. They PAY WELL and expect the best, but some of them are spoiled children.
Another problem is that you must prepare!!!! The price of everything triples, and you have to know WHEN to shop. Additionally, bringing in "people of interest" brings in the papparazi and many of others that feed off of them. We've pretty much got the "bottom feeders" covered but some are really a PITA!
I stocked up on beer a few weeks ago, and I've got groceries covered, so we're good.....
LET THE GAMES BEGIN! Judging from the GulfStream G-6s, and helicopters coming in, and the number of "black cars" with private licenses from Atlanta coming in today, it's gonna be a good, but LONG summer.
