I obtained a 2nd hand WEN lathe a couple years ago and have only turned a few pens and a vase. While turning the vase, as I cleared chips, the back of my hand touched the motor casing which was extremely hot. I measured the temp as variable with the highest spot being nearly 200 degrees. Curious if other WEN owners have encountered this problem and if so, how was the issue resolved?

The air flow appears to be good and the motor runs fine.

Thanks Smokey. When I'm done for the day, I raise the motor. When begin to turn, i let the motor down and admit to adding slight pressure then tightening the motor plate.

Is it sufficient to just let the weight of the motor for tension?

My old lathe, the Jet 1012 is still going strong. After more then 20 years. The motor is also hot when I turned for a longer time. I recently give it away and it still does the job.
