Not thrilled with PSI after this weekend.:mad::mad:
A client wanted one of PSI's over and under shotgun pens. Ordered two sets of the snakeskin and blackwood blanks for this kit. Turned the black wood tops and put them away. Started on the snakeskin lower barrels. Working with the skew and noticed a spot while it was spinning. The dang skin was visible on both ends of the blank and I was not even close to the bushings. Tried to fix with some ca, did not work, still too proud of the fittings.

Got out the other blank. Same thing with the exposed skin at the seam line.
Measured the bushings at .541, same as instruction sheet indicated. The skins are bare at .560, .555 on one blank and .562 and .570 on the other.

Really pis*#*# about this time. Can't get the client his pen!
Anyone else with a problem with these blanks? Did I screw up somewhere?

Then started on another blank I had from PSI. Stabilized grey Buckeye burl. I cut it with the wrapper still on and took it to the lathe to drill. Decided to take off the wrapper to keep it cool and the found the *surprise* under the paper!:mad:

Whoever wrapped this one should have know better with a big chunk out of the blank. Almost looks intentionally covered up. Another pen on hold!

Need to contact them tomorrow.

WOW that is bad luck. I have had some things go wrong w/ PSI but not like this. Have you called them? I am sure if you explained the situation they would get you your blanks pretty quick.......assuming you want blanks from them again.

Sorry about your problems!

As many problems as I have had with PSI, and as many times as I have ranted about thier service and products, THEY DO SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER!

The last two big orders I placed with PSI ($1,000+ orders) were both shipped in the same week as ordered. Both were missing things listed as shipped. It only took a brief phone call and the short ships were on the way, immediately.

Yesterday, a Majestic Stars and Stripes was missing. I called and they said it was one the way. About 10 minutes later the UPS driver pulled back into the driveway and had the missing pieces that had fallen out of my box. PSI was ready to replace immediately, even though that had done it right.

I THINK they are finally getting better!

Andy, I agree they are getting better. I sure hope so, since I have also spent $1000s with them over the past few years.

It just gripes me when the little things go wrong! Especially when a client is expecting a pen on Monday and the problems surface on Saturday.

PSI is giving me credit for the blanks. They have always worked out any problems I have had with orders etc. A little better quality control would go a long way with me.

My major complaint with them is the horrible packing job. I've yet to get an order that has not received damage because there was no fill material. The last order I placed came with a scrunched up PSI catalog as the fill. Needless to say the item was damaged. They do send out a replacement quickly, but the hassle is not worth it to me.

+1 for the packing deficiencies...............I experienced the same "catalog packing." I have since gone elsewhere for my supplies. For me it's just not worth the hassle even if replacements are sent.

As an alternative, there are places that are PSI resellers. Woodturningz.com is one. They can get any PSI product for the same price or less and they typically ship orders the same day via priority mail. I have placed several orders with them without any problems. The only time I had an issue was when I got a cigar kit where the drive mechanism did not fit correctly. I emailed them the next morning and within an hour I had a reply email saying a replacement had shipped. They do not have every PSI item in stock, but most of the pen turning items are, even if they are not on their website, so if you do not see what you need, call with the PSI catalog number.

LOL! Read comment #3. The package was packed so poorly that "stuff" fell out of the top of the box!

Fortunately the UPS man is here every day and recognized the "stuff" as mine.

They are getting better, BUT they still need help in the shipping department.
