Last month, I asked IAP members to consider voting for me as "Best Artist" at the Lake Oconee Living Magazine. WE won!!!! AND with nearly 10 percent of the total vote!

With 39 competitors in the field, I can't help but feel that the IAP support made a BIG (perhaps, the ONLY difference) between winning and losing.

This is the first time a "pen artist" has even been nominated for this award. My winning prize is a Certificate of BEST ARTIST, which I can proudly display in my booth.

The other prize is a feature article about my "art" in the magazine's "Best of Lake Oconee" issue, this winter.

I have decided that I want to make this article all about "pen making" and advancing pen making as an art, instead of "all about me". I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN GETTING PM's LISTING WHAT YOU ALL THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO HELP ADVANCE OUR ART.

Thanks again for all of the support, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR ALL THE KNOWLEDGE I HAVE GAINED HERE!

Respectfully and humbly submitted.

Hey Andy,
You give yourself too little credit. Yes, you did receive a vote or two from IAP, but there must have been local voting also. CONGRATULATIONS! You earned it.

By the way, you give as good as you get here.:biggrin:

Congrats Andy! Great job on your work, winning, and the advancement of our addiction..

Just keep refering to our addiction as an art form. Maybe then people may start to differentiate between the "artist" and the "hobblyist" and wont balk at a 300.00 priced "piece of Funtional Art".
Maybe....

Congrats Andy . Well deserved , now go toot your own horn . Penmaking is a wonderful pastime but the advancement of your wallet is more important in this economy .

Butch:
The horn I should toot is the IAP horn. I have learned so much from you, George, Don , Roy, JohnU, Curtis.....and about 2,000 others here!

My goal here is to advance pen making. I often take the opposite side of a debate from you, simply because it prompts the free flow of information from others as well.

IMHO, this forum is the best of the best the web has to offer. I plan to use this award as a means to advance our art.

Thanks for the vote. Thanks for the free lessons!

Andy, well deserved and just a reminder of the heart of the folks here. Also remember as much as you learn from others here we learn from you, now go out and sell yourself to the magazine it could be a real money maker..I have a feeling a job is close to finding you.

Andy

Congratulations! I would love a copy of the magazine if they can supply some extras. Maybe you can bring it in for one of the Georgia meetings at Woodcraft!!! We could get our local "Famous" artist to sign a bunch of em'!
