Has anybody made or used a water misting system to keep cool. I'm looking to make a misting system that I can attach to my EZ-UP for when we go racing on Saturdays. I've looked at a few thing online but was trying to get a little more info. We have electricity in the trailer but was concerned at how much water you use with these things. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

We have tried making our own misting systems, etc. They just don't work here. The humidity is so high that they don't really mist and you just end up getting everything wet.

If humidity is not an issue in your area, Home Depot sells a "canopy misting system" that works as well as any other mister and the price is about half of what you can assemble the parts and make you own. If you can't hook the system to a faucet, you can pressurize the system by means of a pump up sprayer.

This picture shows what works better than anything else we have tried. It can be run with a voltage inverter, generator or just plugging into a wall outlet. You might be surprised how well the $15 device works! We call it the REDNECK CEILING FAN:)

We have a misting fan that we used to great effect this past weekend. Works great if you don't care if anything gets wet. I wouldn't consider it for use within 20 feet of my pens.

Well Andy, our humidity is as high as yours. As for getting wet, it will just be us underneath the canopy. I'm just trying to get some relief from the heat as we are at the track from about 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. I've got a few fans but never thought about how you positioned yours. All ours our ziptied to the sides of the canopy.

Lowe's now carry the misting systems for about $20. I'm afraid that just like here in Florida, that it would probably be too high humidity for it to be of any real use to you. Now, when I was out in New Mexico, they worked GREAT! Even had a swamp cooler for AC in most houses and businesses.

Here's one I've had to use a few times: One of those large cylindrical coolers full of ice water. Stick as much of your leg in there as you can and let it sit as long as you can take it. It's crude, but it definitely helps beat the heat. May wanna try it out at home before you bring it on the road, though. It can also be set up pretty discretely.

Ernie:
Google "portable airplane air conditioners".

You likely have all the stuff to make this little air conditioner and it will keep a 10 x 10 canopy (with 3 side curtains attached) very cool.

The "playmate cooler sized" air conditioner uses a car heater core, a 12 volt blower (a marine bilge blower), a SeaDoo battery, a boat bilge pump and milk jug of ice and water to produce 40 degree air. We have a friend who has one. It works very well.

I actually have 95% of that in my garage!! I'll take a look at making it. I sometimes wonder where you guys find all this stuff at.

Holy cow those baby's are selling for $500.00. It looks easy to make. I guess that's what i'll be doing on the 4th.

You need to come here sometimes. We have the HeadHunters Motorcycle Club 1/8 mile drag track that runs every Saturday night, and every Thursday night is "open-race what you BRUNG night"

We have LanierLand Asphalt and right across the street is Road Atlanta. BUT, not far away is a dirt "Legends track" where we go to watch the fights. Ocassionally a race will break out.

You'll see everything that HASN'T been invented yet over in the "hold my beer and watch this $hit section".

Well that sounds like here. Most of the times they go to a fight and a race breaks out!! The finally started locking the drivers up that were fighting, but it still gets crazy in the stands.

Quick question on the ac. Do you have any plans for it. Just looking at the pics it appears both sides of the heater core go into the cooler. Not sure about the bilge pump yet. Going to do a little more searching before i head to bed.

Ernie:
I'll dig you up some plans. The bilge pump just mounts into the bottom of the cooler and the two hoses of the pump attach to the heater core. The bilge pumps sucks up the ice cold water through the bottom of the pump and circulates it through the core. The fan blows through the core to a "discharge" vent.

Check back. I'll try to have a link to instructions in a few minutes.

They all use the sample principle of recirculating ice water. How you design yours just depends on your imigination.

You just need a submersible pump, a core, a fan, cooler and battery AND some duct tape and imagination.

I'll take pics for ya. I'm pretty sure of how i'm gonna do it. I'm glad Wallyworld has coolers on sale!!
