I have never had a tool worth gloating over before. I know that someone just posted pictures of theirs but I just have to do this.

All of my tools prior to this one are either craigs list rehabs or harbor freight specials. I am saying goodbye to the harbor freight lathe and hello to a brand new Delta 46-460.

The difference is amazing in the quality, accuracy, noise level, speed, no vibration, etc. etc. I love this thing. It is really nice. So glad that this forum exists so I could see opinions on this from others.

I got this for $599 from amazon (shipped) and will be turning in the $50 rebate so net will be $549.

I took some pictures of my new child er, tool and you can see in the last photo how dead on it is out of the box.

Thanks for allowing me to gloat. Bye rickety noisy reeves drive HF pos! :)

Don't "baby" that jewel - put it to work - make shavings.

I couldn't tell - I hope it is the variable speed model.

Have fun - Congratulations.

Must be nice. I received my 46-460 from Amazon a week ago.....in pieces. I had to send it back. I will reorder another one when they receive it back. Hope you enjoy it! I know I am looking forward to getting mine.

oh no... That sucks. I think there is a couple of spots by the plastic covers for the gears and speed dial that are not covered too well. I hade a hole in my box by that part. I checked it first thing when I opened the box because I was worried. I guess I got lucky.

I need to build the stand now... :)

I'm glad you made the decision to go with a quality tool. Several years ago my wife and I finally agreed that purchasing cheap tools at "Men --- oops!" a big-box retailer was nothing more than a waste of money. I had bought a cheap table saw that didn't even have standard miter slots and a drill press whose tolerance was measured in 1/4" variances. After having wasted our money we sold both (at a fair price and being honest with our buyers). We then bought some good quality tools. My PSI lathe is now dedicated to drilling and I love my JET 1220 lathe. I do wish, now, I had listened to a couple of friends and went with the Delta but - the JET does what I want! No more cheap tools for us!

Oh man it is really nice. I can hear the radio with running the lathe at full speed and I get no vibration. Totally opposite to what I had before. I just need to get the stand built (the one from shop notes 67) and get it mounted in its final resting place to really put it thtough its paces. Really impressed so far.
