Why are they not interchangable? I got the twist mechanisums mixed up. On one pen the refill came out too much and on the other the refill didn't come out at all. They appear to be the same size, and I didn't have any trouble screwing them in (threads are the same). I did notice the Sierra has a longer piece on the nib than the Wall St. All is well now. It just got me wondering..

They are not necessarily the same transmission...A company that makes transmissions recently contacted me to offer their wares. They make a multitude of transmissions and when I asked them about transmissions for specific kits they said they would send me samples so I could try them to see which transmission will work with which kit. Many of the transmissions in their catalog look exactly alike.

I also get transmissions for finial operated kits that have female threads - but on finial operated pens of the sierra style nothing is screwed into the transmissions and they don't screw onto anything so the threads would be not needed but, the transmissions could be used on a cigar style kit where the threads would be needed.

This is why I object to other vendors calling their pens "sierra". The Berea sierra is VERY LIKELY to be interchangeable with the Wall Street II, since they are both made by Berea. Any other pen called "sierra" just adds to the confusion---and there are MANY.

FWIW
(In the future this information will be available in my posts in the ExoticBlanks forum--watch for it!!!)

Dayacom also makes and sells at retail, a "non-brand" kit they call "
Wall Street II. Hence, Wall Street II in and of itself is not enough info to say it's made by Berea.

Personally I think there are so many kits of that style called by so many names and made by so many vendors - I can think of 6 different vendors off the top of my head - that there will always be confusion about interchangeability between them.

The best advice is "assume parts between kits procured from different vendors are not interchangeable until proven otherwise".
