I received this blank in a trade and it is the first time that I have had the opportunity to work with this very rare timber.
Huon pine was used extensively for boat building and other things and has now become very difficult to get hold of.
Rather than waste all the underside of the big bowl I cut a ring off to use in other projects. During this process I managed to create several very loud crash sounds from the roof and walls, nothing from flesh though, luckily.
Unfortunately I have to make two posts because the photos are on different file dates and I cannot post two photos with the same number.
So please bear with me.
I hope you like this project and thank you for looking.
C & C welcome.

Huon Pine Bowls

I finished these two yesterday.
They are sanded to 400, then sealed with sanding sealer and sanded again. Then three coats of spraycan Satin Lacquer.

Photos 4, 5, and 6 are the small bowl and measure 9.5in x 2.5in.
Photos 7, 8, and 9 are the large bowl and that measures 15.5in x 4in.
As above, Thanks for looking and I hope you like them.
C & C welcome.

Glorious Bowls, Bob.
Huon Pine is a Fantastic Timber, Terrific to Turn, and Finishes like a Dream.
Yours is no exception, inspite of your trying to shatter it.
Beautiful Proportions and Profile.
Classic Beauty.
Did you Bowl Save, the smaller Bowl Bob? If so what system did you use?
Congratulations,
Brian.

Hi Brian,
Yes, I used my Woodcut Bowl Saver. It saves a lot of shavings, and works really well. I bought it direct from NZ.
Thanks for the comments.
