Justin,
I work a few miles from the Rockler in Torrance, and live just north of downtown LA. Right now my truck is in need of repair so I ride the buses and trains. If you want to stop by I have plenty of wood I can share with you. There is also a place in Pasadena called Arroyo Hardwoods. They're on Colorado and I think Allen. They have lots of exotic woods in full board lengths. If you buy anything there and need it cut up I can do that at my place. I have a contractors table saw and a band saw. I also do a swap with a local firewood place from time to time. I give him one slimline pen and he usually lets me fill one or two large wheelbarrows with wood from his place. I wander over it for a while and pick up some decent stuff that I then cut up on my bandsaw. I have a lot of cherry burl from him as well as other burls, curly wood and regular wood. It's hit and miss over there based on what gets cut locally and taken to his place. I picked up a bunch of olive wood, camphor, red eucalyptus, ash, red oak, avocado, walnut, pepper wood, etc there as well. I haven't cut all of it up yet and can certainly cut up what you want if you come over. There is also a Rockler less than a mile from the firewood place in Pasadena. It's on Rosemead Blvd a block south of Colorado Blvd at the far east end of Pasadena. That's the second of the two Rocklers in the LA area.
