I used to buy these great "old-time" Cheyenne ammunition boxes from Buffalo Arms. They were designed to add a little final touch of authenticity to go with the SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) Cowboy Action Shooter's ensembles. They had a nostalgic design that made them fit in perfectly with a collection of old Winchester lever guns and Colt six-shooters. Unfortunately, about five years ago they started to be hard to find and were reported as unavailable or discontinued by the manufacturer. So - I decided to make something like them myself.

After tearing one of the Cheyenne boxes apart, I did some measuring and design work using Microsoft Publisher for printing the box artwork and Lightburn software for cutting them out on my diode laser. They are made from heavy duty card stock and even include a thumb cutout on the sides and "egg crate-style" dividers on the inside. After making a couple 50-round boxes (the standard), I decided to downsize my design to 25-rounds. The dark dashes on the corners are perforations that were cut with the laser to provide a line for creasing the paper. I think they turned out pretty good -- and pretty "vintagy".

Let me know what you think. - Dave

PS The subdivision I live in is named Indian Hills, thus the name and basic designs I chose for my reloaded ammo.

Dave,

Much like the rest of your work, these are amazing. I think the real and true question we all have is this: "What is your cowboy action shooting name"

I'm guessing "Kid Husker" or maybe just "Columbus" like Ricky Nelson is "Colorado" in Rio Bravo

I print a sheet of parchment colored card stock with a design I make in Microsoft Publisher. I use a spray adhesive and laminate it to another piece of card stock, plain cardboard, Kraft paper kind of looking. Then I laser the box out of the laminated card stock.
Great idea and thank you for your explanation.

That is using your creative mind. Thanks for showing your boxes too!
