As the season turns my views get more interesting. The garden was a success and is almost complete. Great fresh vegetables.

The right hand side shows a composter with hopefully bear defensive covering.

The fence will only slow a bear down for a few seconds.
We tried a backyard and deck garden but didn't work. We have a friend who has a market locally.

FWIW, a bear broke into a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN recently. Had to be euthanized. Fence, as said, don't slow down a determined bear.

Love those gnarly, old oak trees. Good thought on composter but if a bear wants in it will just get in.
Haven't had any problems with bears here, but when I lived in Huffman, just north of Lake Houston, we had raccoons that kept getting in the garbage... I built a cage around the garbage cans and put a spring clip on the hasp.... Silly raccoons figured out how to pick the lock and still got into the garbage.

Raccoons are quite tenacious and suprisingly smart when it comes to solving puzzles rewarding them with food. Kind of impressive really.
