Varnish

I have not tried varnish but you might look in the archives. I'm sure it has been discussed.

If you do a search of varnish or polyurethane, you will find lots of information.

I use it a lot. I have strings hanging in my shop and they have small nails tied to the end. I drop those through the blank and then I dip them into a small jar of polyurethane. Let them dry over night (depending on the weather, the longer the better), lightly sand, and apply another coat in the same manner. I have some drying now, will post pictures when they're done.
