PSI has a new Variable speed conversion kit for the Jet and Delta mini lathes. It is 1/2 HP and has speeds from 650-3800rpm. The cost is $114.95. I checked, and they will not have any until the first of the year.

Not a rant but just a question.
Why would anyone go through all the trouble to make a VS conversion kit and not slow it down to at least what the RPM's are on the original tool.
Better yet make it slower.

My view, if you want a VS (for that conversion kit price)...why not sell what you have and buy one that is already a VS?

I personally won't go through the trouble since there is no guarantee that I will do it right (just me). By converting, you might loose your lathe warranty also (granted it still have some left).

My stance will be different if I have a surplus motor, etc. that I can use though.

I also would not go through the trouble. I have considered putting a new motor on mine to get true EVS . . . probably will never get to it. If I did though that would be worth the trouble (maybe).
