Vacuum question

I'm expanding into bowl making and hollow forms. I have been doing some reading on vacuum chucks. Seems like there are two methods to create the vacuum, with a vacuum pump or some type of gismo to convert a compressor into a vacuum. I also have interest in wood stabilization. Would it be a bad assumption on my part to think if I get a system that uses a pump for the vacuum chuck that I could use that same pump for stabilization as well?

Depends on the strength of the vacuum pull/suction along with the speed in cubic feet per minute, but it sounds perfectly feasible.

This is one of those occasions where the different purposes do not combine effectively.

The venturi vacuum pumps that run off a compressor will not come near the 28 inches,mercury you want for cactus juice and the like (and they tend to be noisy).

The high pull pumps that work for stabilization do not move the volume of air one needs with a vacuum Chuck.

Get 2 pumps but the one for vacuum chucking can run off a compressor. I do not like the noise and switched to a diaphragm pump for vacuum chucks.

Diaphragm pump is the one that works independent from the compressor (I'm guessing the noise you don't like is the compressor)?
 
OK, I read again and see Venturi works with compressor and diaphragm must be a stand alone pump.

I got two noises. The compressor and the "whistle" of the venturi. If you use it much, the electric bill will catch you too. Compressor eats lots of power compared to a diaphragm vacuum pump.
