I recently got a new vacuum chamber and I hooked up my JB Industries vacuum pump and all it does is hum when turned on. It hasn't been used in over a year (the oil level looks good in the sight window) and I think it may be the capacitor. Anybody have any words of wisdom?

If you can get to the motor shaft or fan try spinning it by hand (while unplugged) to ensure the bearings are not rusted. If it spins, I would agree it's the capacitor.

Good Luck

The only thing I can get to is an allen screw on the shaft between the motor and the pump. I am unable to budge it by prying with an allen wrench but I can see it try to move just slightly when I power up the motor.

I took the pump to a motor repair shop and they checked it out and said that the motor was fine but the pump was froze up.
I'm guessing that the Cactus Juice somehow got into the pump and a year of inactivity caused it to freeze up.
I've found a replacement JB pump on Craigslist but I am wondering how I can keep the Cactus Juice out of the pump so I don't have this problem again?

don't suck up juice from the chamber

or put an collection jar between the chamber and the pump to catch any liquid before it gets to the pump.
I never did that I knew of and that's obviously what I don't want to do. It could be fumes that caused the problem.

Did a Google search on a collection jar but didn't get any revelations.
