Very IRRITATED. I was one of the winners of the Losers Train drawing and won a box of blanks contributed by SPANX. He sent them to me the very next day after the drawing (and to the correct address) via USPS. According to the tracking information the package was "out for delivery" at 7:12 AM yesterday. The tracking information says that the package was "delivered in/at mailbox" at 8:13 PM (that's right 8:13 AT NIGHT - 13 hours after it left the post office to be delivered). It was not delivered to our mailbox nor our upstairs neighbor (2 family flat) nor to our neighbors in houses on either side of us. Locally there is no phone number to call to speak to a post office manager I'm betting the postman either threw the package away, or kept it for himself. At any event, I will not be enjoying the pen blanks so generously contributed by SPANX. Just PISSES me off.

Take a deep breath and relax second.

You maybe totally right in what you say but then also there could have been a subistute carried on the route. I had the same thing happen here a couple of months ago. Tracking information said that the package had been delivered.

The truth of the matter was that it had NOT been delivered but was delivered the next day........By the regular carrier. Just give it another 24 hours and then get mad. (although getting mad never helps anything)

And if the worse happened, go and talk to your postmaster. TALK being the main word as all they can do is take the complaint and look into it. They didn't cause the problem.

I understand the frustration you are having and wish I could help.

I've done this before. Not my first rodeo. Local Post office Station "Manager" won't talk to postal patrons nor will they question any postal carrier. The Detroit area is where the phrase "going postal" originated when a postal worker who had been disciplined walked into the post office where he had worked and shot the station manager to death. Consequently there is no accountability or expectations of postal carriers around here. The Post Master for the Detroit area won't see anyone either or is not there and then trying to find wheelchair accessible parking where his office is located is problematical. He Says it's not his job to deal with the public. USPS Service in the 1800s via pony express or stage coach or ship was better than it is in Detroit now. This proves I belonged on the losers train and still belong on it.

With the crappy USPS service hereabouts I was very pleasantly surprised when I got my IAP smock delivered properly.

I did this once too. The name of the USPS game is CYA. I'm too old and too sick to wanna deal with it again and get nowhere I'm just basically screwed. Proof that I REALLY Belong on the Losers Train permanently. I think I won and I still lose. Thanks for the suggestion, Brother.

Our mail was delivered at 8:30 pm last night by a women who had to do her route first and then this route. There is no reason for the mail to be delivered at 8:30 pm and by a women out after dark especially in our neighborhood. I ordered a some shaving supplies for Harry's in Reno Nevada 120 mile away. It never go here. Harry's had to send another order by FedEX got here the next day. Bought some Pen making stuff from an IAP member in Reno and few years ago it took 10 day for it to get by way of Alaska. I could some political or ant government statement but don't want to get in trouble. Suffice it to say the USPS is screwed up.

I had a package of game call blanks sent to me that took 3 months to travel from Missouri to Louisiana. Could have thrown them in the Mississippi River and floated them faster than that, but they did arrive with the package torn to shreds and taped back together.

I had an undelivered package confirmed as delivered to my home address by USPS GPS. There was no explanation. local supervisor insisted GPS was infallible. The package was delivered the next day. I suspect a sub carrier scanned it as delivered and then left it with a neighbor or took it back to the PO.

Hey ... I had my postal carrier put my address in as "undeliverable" in the national database, and for 3 months I couldn't get ANY mail delivered ....

I'm still missing THREE paychecks from Advance Auto Parts, I had to drop my bank because they were charging me for undelivered/returned mail repeatedly, and there's no telling what those fools are going to do next. I had to talk with my local postmaster. Thankfully he was also my previous delivery carrier, so he knew who I was and that my carrier had made the error.

I've had so many problems with USPS over the past 2 years that just walking into the post office to get stamps makes them stare at me and frown ....

If you don't file a complaint, then you are just as much at fault. The reason it is hard to get the USPS to do something is because hardly anyone files complaints. The more complaints, the more they will do something. So EVERYONE should file complaints EVERY time something like this happens.

Post Hoc Report I got my package Friday - 3 days after the USPS said it was delivered. Turns out the postal carrier had stopped at a bar for a few beers (he' now suspended - night shift smelled alcohol on his breath when he bought his postal van back to the station) and delivered the package to a residence three streets over with the same street number. His excuse was that it was dark and he got confused. Was finally retrieved and brought back to me on Friday. The person who got it by mistake tried to call the post office but of course they don't answer the phone.

I'm not sticking up for this particular carrier and certainly not condoning his actions. That being said, I've been a carrier for 32+ years and can honestly say that management is creating pathetic carriers that are NOT trained the simplistic part of this job. Keep your customers happy and go out of your way for them. The new training is to scare, intimidate, and harass them till all they think about is running their asses off and making managements numbers. Meanwhile sacrificing service and the satisfaction of the people they ACTUALLY work for. My sincere apologies from the NEW P.O. that has forgotten what we're here for and hopefully will improve, though management apparently does not wish for that to happen:frown:

I played in a Brass Band with a retired USPS sorting facility supervisor and he said much the same thing several times. Thanks for your point-of-view. I will say that for a wonderful few years we had a wonderful carrier who went out of her way for us. When we moved three houses down the block. We're actually still living in the first place but working on the "new" place and moving some stuff down, she saw us at the new place and would always stop and say hi and since the new place was closer to the end of the block where she started she'd always hand us our mail. (we didn't do change of address until we actually were completely moved over). She was wonderful but she got sick and had to stop working.

I have had so many packages not arrive that I believe there is an Xray machine that they scan packages through. I buy lots of things off ebay and it seems the nicest items just do not make it to my house. Now I file the proper things through ebay and most times I get my money returned. Others they just send a new one. But what is frustrating is I want the item. Going through this as we speak. Package is a week late.

This kind of happened to me, but for a longer period of time (years). I lived about 2 blocks from the post office, on the main side street off of the street the P.O. is on and kept trying to deliver my mail to the same house address on a street buried back in the neighborhood, mind you I live on the largest street off of the 4 lane road the P.O. is on. I had magazine subscriptions cancelled, the company I worked for had to FedEx my paychecks to me. It took years to fix this, finally they had to put up a big sign in the sorting building with my address on it and all my male had to be specially handled. When I used to work in sales and service I just hated it when our company would ship UPS for something that was really important because they are equally as bad. Now this was about ten years ago and I don't live in that area anymore so I don't know if they ever improved. For the sake of the people that do live in that area, I hope so.

Last week told package delivered to the next town but shown as delivered to me at the side door. It was amazon got refund and frees expedited delivery. It worked out but files complaint with USPS. Local branch said Amazon was wrong they deliver to the right house. I hope whoever has my package need a 3/4 " auger. The other packages lost at some time 2 books made it a week later. so now have 2 copies and a full refund and Amazon says dont return keep them. Frustrating to see business run this way. If I treated my pathology cases this way Id be sued up the ying yang. Oh well.

I think I'd insist on UPS or Fed Ex. and not buy from anyone that won't do that. A man needs his long freight.

Seems some here think it's the rule rather than the exception than things go missing when touched by USPS..I think that's unfair and very short-sighted as I've heard as many or more horror stories about FedEx and UPS...I'm by no means saying I don't feel apologetic and sympathetic towards people that have had a bad experience, but don't imply it happens everytime...it just plain doesn't.

Ambidex. I think that USPS service varies greatly according to the recipient's location (and corresponding Post Office). Some give good to excellent service - others very horrible service and some give service in gradations in between the two extremes Overall the USPS service in my area is Bad and that feeling i echoed among those of my aquaintance who are resident in two different postal zip codes-meaning two different Post Offices.

I have to agree with Ambidex... I worked for 40 years in the traffic and transportation industry.. working with almost every carrier in the industry, air, rail, truck, ocean carriers, couriers and the post office... given the number of packages that move in this country in a given day, the error rate is extremely low... generally well less than .01%. Over the years I learned which carriers gave better service to what destinations... I didn't use the post office often, but at one time I was a load master on a major air carrier and handled mail by the ton... I also watched it being sorted by hand at a major sort center... I know that service could be better, but considering circumstances, its handled pretty well.

And since everyone touts UPS, I know that UPS and the USPS have a contractual agreement that some of the UPS packages are actually delivered to the USPS for final delivery. I get a number of packaged that have UPS labels from the origin and are dropped at my house by my postal carrier.

I only used FEDEX for domestic courier... they take every thing from origin to their hub sort center than back to destination... I often sent letter of credit documents from my office in east Houston to downtown Houston via Memphis...via FEDEX..... International documents I would not trust FEDEX with... they were always sent via DHL.... unless they were destination down under then I used TNT, a courier out of Australia.

All carriers have screwed up at one time or another... Over my 40 years, I've had a number of packages lost, ranging in size from very small to packages that were the size of a small room...

Not for nothing FedX is not all special either. We have a huge FedX hub in NJ. In fact about 7 or 8 years ago we had 2 huge projects going on in this facility. They were expanding and we were working on the conveyor system. Also they were installing one of the states largest solar array system on the east coast up on their roofs. Many times I had to walk the outside of the warehouses for various things. As I did many many many times I had seen packages fall off the conveyors that feed the trucks. They wind up under the lift gates or just in the roadway. At times I stopped to pick them up and placed on the lift. I was told not to do this. It was a shame to see people's packages sitting there in the rain or smashed. I assume they had someone at certain days come around and do a sweep of the grounds. Also watching the way packages get handled inside the warehouse would make you cringe. Forget the holiday season. The trucks and forklifts were flying. The hired help they put on for the holidays were on short leashes for productivity.

It is amazing how things get delivered.

I do think JT that is more of an eBay thing than USPS. I have had the same thing happen to me. I don't recall it ever happening with shipments from anyone else. International shipments via DHL excepted....I always get the shipment from them but at time it is very late.

In the vernacular of the industry - at least while I was in the industry - DHL had two connotations.... DHL stood for DOCUMENTS HOPELESSLY LOST or sometimes DEWEY, HUEY AND LOUIE.

They were pretty good internationally and I used them almost exclusively for document shipments internationally and if I remember correctly, they were purchased some years back by the Deutsche Post...

It is now a division of Deutsche Post they bought it about 15 years or so ago. DHL, actually was the last initial of the 3 people who started the company. From what I've heard it never had a real good reputation in the USA and still doesn't but it is a lot cheaper than FedEx or UPS from China or Taiwan.
