Yep, the USPS did it real good this time! I sent a 36# box, at a cost of $132 for Priority Mail, of Cactus Juice and a Chamber to a customer in Austria. My customer contacted me with tracking info and low and behold, the package has arrived and cleared customs.....in Australia! I called and started an inquiry and the nice fellow at USPS blamed it on COMPUTERS! I could certainly understand it getting mixed up by HUMANS since Austria and Australia are so close in name but computers? What the heck is the barcode on the label for? He said this happens "frequent enough" that Australia and Austria work well together to get things sorted out and it will take no more than 23 days! So much for paying extra for Priority Mail to get it there in a reasonable time!

I guess you DON'T get what you pay for after all.

Heck, if it was the Racine Post Office, they would tell me I should pay MORE, cause the package has travelled extra miles.:biggrin::biggrin:

They do get nearly all the packages to people on time. Priority seems to do much better than first class--based on the last check we got --- over a week.

But when they goof, it's a real pain!!

well well well, they are 4. something billion in the hole and they blame computers for sending a package to Australia when it should have gone to Austria. Excuse me?!
Print off that tracking page and send it to your Congressman.

Perhaps the extra charge was so they could include a Christmas Card. Merry Christmas!!!:frown:

How about two weeks ago I send an order to Puerto Rico to an IAP member get to the sub station post office to drop it off and the clerk tells me it needs a long customs form filled out. No way to argue with him so I fill it out. a couple of days ago I hear from the customer "where's my order" I track it in customs they don't know why it was sent to them but sure enough two days later it arrives at my customer's address. Total time 14 days. Heres the kicker I spoke to the postmaster and all mail to Puerto Rico that has a zip code needs no customs form (This customer has a zip code which was used). Extra cost to the postal service for their clerks screw up not a lot but multiply that by how often the do screw up not machines. BTW in the two days between the customer complaining about not receiving the package and receiving it I sent a duplicate package to him and told him to keep both.

Roy,
That was real nice of you to send the second package.
The last place I worked at, we found it much easier to have someone carry items to Puerto Rico rather than try to mail them. Typically found it was cheaper in the long run due to mis-handlingof USPS:eek: (they always blamed someone else).
As a side note, because some of the items are ITAR related, we could nor send electronic media to PR. Go figure. Another US regulation helping us in our lives.

Once again Roy, good turn

Maybe the guy in Australia would like to join IAP and come join the fun.He is already set up with a nice chamber and juice.Maybe we will see some blanks for sale soon.

I hate this damn computer
I wish they would sell it
it never does what I want
only what I tell it.

I love the blame it on the computer excuse. Some human somewhere told it that Australia and Austria were interchangeable.

Here's my USPS story -- I moved my shop a month ago. (same town 9 blocks down the street) and filled out a change of address online. BTW they use a credit card for ID & charge a $1 to verify your info. But that takes a week before they forward to your new address. Later in the month I had a check sent to me from my town that took 10 days to get to me. On the same day I received 2 catalogs that were shipping 1st class on July 1 and I received them on August 1. How can you beat that for service!! Pony Express would have easily beat that!

Try their new website. It is a lesson in frustration--

That new website is horrible, The whine about needing more money for postage and shipping they had a website that while wasn't the easiest to navigate was liveable, NOW it's a mess Sign in about 3 or 4 times, I wonder how much their IT dept. wrote off for the hours they put in SCREWING it up!!!
