I have used 92.5 % silver in segmented pens in the past and it looks well, so I thought I could try George V sixpences instead. They are 50% silver, but don't shine as well as silver. Maybe the cocobolo tarnished it somewhat. Other timber is African Blackwood.

Of course, I don't have any sixpence pieces !!! . Maybe a couple from a years-ago trip ..... but where ?

Looks like they are UK sixpence pieces, 40 of those to the £1 until decimal coinage was introduced in 1971, Now the equivalent of 2 1/2 current new pence. That was when you could buy a pint for 2 bob!

So Mal, it must have been a trip to the UK before 1971 and you found some in your pocket after the trip!!

Apologies to UK members including Alain, who already know this.

Excellent pen by the way.

I have a couple of old threepenny bits- Wonder if I could use those?
