Lets say I wanted to take a large gig USB drive, remove the case then make my own. Can I do this?

PSI only has 2 gig drives I want a bigger one.

Buy the kit without the flash drive. You can get small frame flash drives that will fit the kit at Best Buy. I paid $6 for an 8 gig and you can get a 32 gig for less than PSI wants for a 2 gig.

This is what I did for the usb euro I built.

I don't like the kit either, just the idea. I want to make my own. Can I just split a case open, remove the guts and make a new case, or is there something special about the case?

Haynie, The actual drive is just a small circuit board inside the case.
I bought the one in the picture so I could just slide it into the PSI kit without having to crack the case. (I am a master circuit board destroyer)
If you look around you can buy them even smaller than this one.

I have put up to 64 gb sandisk drives in the PSI cases.

You can buy the case without the drive from Woodnwhimsies.

I had a lot of complaints about the PSI ones blocking access to the adjacent ports, so I started just making my own wooden cases for them instead.

They cost less and sell for more. ;)

It's common for USB devices to block access to other ports on some machines, whether they are mass produced or custom made (USB that is) and some machines just lend themselves to it happening even with the slimmest of devices.

If you are planning on selling custom USB casings or a USB fitted pen, maybe have fattish and thinnish offerings.

This reminds me of one of our brief visiting members here. I think he was from Russia (?) He made the coolest USB holders and even a pc mouse or two. I really enjoyed his stuff.

Yeah, that guy did a real nice job. I saw his work on another site as well but can't recall which one it was.

I thought a custom USB would make a great gift in lieu of pen or even stylus for my ex-work mates (used to be in IT). But after seeing his work I changed my mind about even attempting the task. My skills are certainly not up to it and they get pens instead!

I read it some while back. Then yesterday I found it again, now I can't work search properly. It's findable, just not by me.
