With todays use of smartphones being used as cameras it is getting increasingly frustrating to look at people' s photos here and other sites that are sideways or upside down. To me it shows a lack of knowledge of their phones or just plain lazy. There are a ton of apps that correct photos from phones before they are sent. There are a ton of question and ANSWERS on how to correct this and what is the proper way to hold a camera phone. Everyone is in such a hurry these days it is amazing they get anything done right.

How hard is it to construct a thread and add your photos and then hit PREVIEW post and look to see if your photos are the proper orientation before you hit submit. If they are not then fix them in a photo program or load them to a site that you can turn them such as Photobucket.

Now I know this is just my petpeeve but I will tell you this if your photos are sideways or upside down I am not looking or commenting about them. Others may find this to be todays norm but it is getting increasingly frustrating and tired of hearing all the excuses.

A quick google search and look what I found.

why do some photos come out sideways and how do you correct - Bing

Here is a good one

Now I know this post will not favor many here but I am just ranting and I am sure there are others here that just do not want to say anything. I think if people become more conscious of this they will do a better job of correcting. Maybe I am alone on an island here but I had to post and mind you I am not signalling anyone in particular out. Can you please be more mindful of others when posting photos. We all want to see and enjoy your work but when you do not take the extra effort to present them right it sends a poor message to begin with. OK I am done with my rant. Pick me apart.

Well I happen to one that uploaded a photo and sad to say that it is upside down. However when you tap to view it on the thread, it miraculously self corrects and looks ok. I am not bothered by your observations JT and will do a better job when posting as it is worth the time to get it right. When I upload a picture from my iPad it is a problem but not an issue from my digital camera. Learning to use new technology as I go along but I would not get too upset if a photo is not perfect as my patience level is long. If I take the little 'things' too seriously then this forum would not be as enjoyable as it is.

I understand your frustration. I take most pics with my iPad and I had difficulty getting them not to rotate when posting. I even tried putting them on my laptop first and then loading them into a post but that did not work either.

The easiest solution for me was not to upload directly to a post. I first load them into my Photo Bucket on here and then insert them into a post. No more rotation problems. I took the time to figure it out because I didn't like looking at other people's sideways pics and like you often skipped over them.

John!! You might edit your thread with spell check. Signalling? I think you meant Singling!

It would give more credence to your complaint, if your rant was free from mistakes as well.

I don't care if someone posts a sideways photo. I just lay on my side so I can see it better

Have a great weekend everybody!

I too have posted photos that appear correctly on my computer but come out sideways when posted here. Guess I should spend a little time and figure out why.

I would like to know how you do a Google search using Bing? Oops!

If we could all be so perfect.
My pet peeve is people that criticize others as if they are superior.
I've read many of your posts and there isn't any need to flood the place with your tears.

If you don't like the orientation of an image, do as you said and pass it by. There's no reason to whine about it. If you feel the image should be oriented a specific way, download it and make the adjustments. The average human brain can automatically orient the image, give it a try.

Everyone expects others to accommodate them, rather than being accommodating.

Your post sends that "poor message to begin with" as you so said.

As a side bar- Bing isn't Google and will give different search results.

Now, in your normal retaliating and defensive fashion, quote my post and continue with your derogative opinions. You do know what is said about opinions, yes?

Good day!

I always knew you were smart, this just proves I'm right. All this time I've been tipping my laptop up on it's side, piece of cake. Now I can just keep my fat lazy butt in bed and lay the computer on the pillow next to me while I snooze on my side. Just another great day where I learned something new! My life just keeps getting easier and easier every day.
Thanks, I owe you one~

At least I knew I was going to be right about one thing, my rant would not be well received. I guess others are allowed and I am not. We all have pet peeves and this one has become one of mine and it will not go away sorry folks. The difference between google and Bing got a big hit that is nice that you are all paying attention. I think I would need a better spell check program:smile: Please continue to voice your opinions.:smile::smile:

John, I think you have the right to rant as much as the next guy.
I have posted pics that were sideways. But I think I have figured out how to fix them. I hope.:biggrin:

It has to do with the "autocorrect" feature on your "smart" devices showing the proper orientation while you take the picture ... but the camera that is installed in the device knows better. It will mark the "bottom" of the picture by way of it's own orientation. Showing the image again on the device will tell the "smart" device to show it at the orientation you took it in, rather than "right side up" according to the camera.

On the other hand, after upload, the forum's software doesn't have that "smart" feature to repeat orientation for the pic, and just shows it "right side up" according to the "bottom" marked by the camera itself ...

People hold their smartphones and other devices however they wish, for personal comfort. This puts the internal camera at strange angles ... even upside down! It's not the fault of the user, it's the fault of the "smart" feature that shows the image in the proper orientation even when the camera is not at the same orientation, but doesn't keep that information with the image when transferred. This is what results in the sideways and upside down pics.

I feel honored here. I made a member, requal, who has been here over a year make his very first post to put my thread down.:biggrin: That calls for a drink:beer: Call it a success. yea.

Nah ... he doesn't really need to post more often ... he just needs to let off a lil steam more often so that he can rile them up and make them post! :)

Jim and Greg I do hear you but my PM messages would have to be cleaned out more often:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin: Struck a chord with one person and he sends me a nasty PM and then blocks me from responding. Hey I am human like everyone else and sometimes things hits home wrong. What can I say. I will get over it. Life is too short.:biggrin::biggrin:

John I understand where your coming from. I do find it a pain to try to look at turned or fuzzy pictures. On the other hand I understand the frustration trying to take pictures and load and transfer and whatever else we need to do to post. I my self has trouble most of the time with pictures. I'm not a photographer or a computer guru. I'm a wood turner so it's frustrating to go through the trouble to post and it doesn't turn out the way you want it. You talk about people being slow or not posting this may play a big part of it as well. As for the guy that PMed you then blocked your response why bother starting a conversation.

Kenny thanks for posting. I too am not a computer guru and in fact I always come here to try to get my computer problems solved:smile:. This is my go to source. I also am not a photo expert. I do not own a smart phone so I do not understand those problems either. It is not only this site but others too and with the use of camera phones being used to take photos of our work it does get frustrating trying to see some of the cool work that is being done. I am not going to lay down or stand on my head to see the photos though and despite what someone said the brain does not adjust for this stuff or at least mine does not. Too old for that. My point was there has to be an App (with today having an app for everything) or program that can be used to easily correct these things. It is not the responsibility to do it has the viewer as someone suggested. That falls on the person who posted them. If you took all the time to make the items and then took the camera out then why not take it a bit further and adjust if it needs adjusting?? Is that really asking too much?? We are in that fast paced world and let the next guy work it out syndrome. I am old school I guess.

Does it bother me that I can not sleep. Not at all. But it was a pet peeve and I see many times people come here with some sort of rant. I do it and people take it the wrong way. I understand I do not get the best ratings on this site and I do not care. I try my best to stay active here.

As far as why someone starts a conversation (not much of a conversation just a lecture and choice of words) and then blocks you from answering is a coward thing to do and it is what they call cyberbullying. They do it because they can. He showed me.:biggrin: i got up this morning and put both feet on the ground and knew things were going to be alright. Life goes on and I am sure somewhere all across the internet someone is posting an upside down photo. Imagine if it was a sales item with Cyber Monday going on.:biggrin::biggrin:

This thread is pretty useless to me. It's like telling someone to use their turn signal when turning. Most people will just ignore it and the others may use their signal! Then there are people that will just pull their hair out :)

I say, let's all just paint a happy tree over there
