So, last week I posted about turning some pre cast FX blanks from Exotic Blanks for a cigar pen and reversing the tubes. I asked about recasting over them and pretty much everyone that responded said nope won't work which is what I thought too. But I like to experiment and I had some amazing clear cast high gloss from Aluminite and their web page says you can pretty much cast this over anything so I though what the heck lets see where this goes. I bought a mold from PTownSubbie , sanded the blanks with 600 to remove any polish and give it some tooth and recast them with the clear cast and my pressure pot. To my amazement they came out really nice, no separation but you could see just a faint outline of the previous casting. I turned them down today and they turned like butter and they came out crystal clear and took a really good polishing. I can't see any separation between the castings nor can I find the outline from the first casting so I'd call this a success. I'm going t o give it to my wife to use as her daily work pen and see how it holds up and report back!
