obtained a slab of this wood several years ago from someone as a trade. unfortunatly him nor I have a clue what type of wood it is.

has LOTS of checking in it. will definatly need to have voids filled prior to finishing or be used for WW casting. The piece on the bottom was wiped down with some lacquer sealer.

Could be eucalyptus burl.
If it's very lightweight and rather soft, it could be redwood burl.
If it's denser and heavier and smells sort of sweet when cut and turned, could be cherry burl.
