Hey everyone,

Ive noticed a couple of things about unaxol finish, but i need the experts on it.

1) when applying the finish, do you go back and forth on the blank until it dries?
2) how many RPM's should the lathe be going when applying the sealer and topcoat?

if there is anything else i should know about it when applying unaxol, let me know. Thanks

Keven,

Since none of the experts chimed in, I will give it a try.

I apply as thin a coat of (sealer or gloss) as possible in one pass. Give it a few minutes to dry and do the same thing. If sealer, wait 45 min or so and sand down to smooth. I usually go to 1500 grit with sandpaper.

I do the gloss the same way except I prefer to let the gloss dry overnight.

As for speed, I go as slow as my lathe will go, and usually leave the lathe on between coats.

I hope this helps.

Hey Will,

I usually apply both sealer and gloss, i go back and forth until it dries, then i sand from 4000-12000 mm, it is pretty shiny at that point, i let it cure overnight then i buff. comes out pretty nice.

when i try to apply sealer or gloss in one pass, i get rings in the finish, anyway to ELIMINATE that, i apply it at 1500 rpms? thanks

For the Unaxol I never use a sealer. I just apply three or four coats, let dry between applications for about 3-4 minutes with the lathe running - I actually speed the lathe up to full speed to accelerate drying. The application is done at a very low speed, say maybe 250-300 rpm, and I apply the Unaxol like it is described for the Enduro, dribbling it on the spinning blank and even out with the papertowel going back and forth.
As William said, before the final sanding I let dry overnight. I sand then from 3200 to 12000 MM.

Keven,

Good point on the rings; they can be a problem. The main thing is if your way works for you that is the important thing. (Sorry about misspelling your name before) :befuddled:
