New wood to me it as a nice grain and colour and finishes well with Friction Polish and Microcrystalline Wax.

thats a very nice looking piece and great workmanship.

Was the wood very, very granular to turn? Reason for asking- I have a piece of " pallet wood" which is B### heavy and the grain picks up no end , ( even with honed skew , honest Hank I hear you !) Once oil finished it looks near identical but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

I can honestly say it was easy to turn I used a round-nosed Scaper. Also, it was a joy to Sand. I purchased it from Stiles & Bates as a Spindle Blank.
Finished Sanding Sealer, Friction Polish and Microcrystalline were.
I have made this my standard finish far less messy.
