Welcome to the voting thread for the Turning Challenged Contest. We will have one round of voting. In that one round you may choose up to three pens.
PEN 1

Artist Statement: This is a single piece Purpleheart put together with a PSI Funline gunmetal pen kit. I've only been turning about 3 months and since I managed to glue myself to a piece of acrylic yesterday, I figured it'd fit right in.
PEN 2

Artist Statement: Slimline kit from WoodCraft. Light wood is from discount pen blank bin at woodcraft. Dark wood is purpleheart. I cut & turned a center band out of purpleheart. Found out that it is very difficult to turn something that small with a hole in the middle. Made my 1st segment by gluing small purpleheart square to the front then turning.
PEN 3

Artist Statement: In the spirit of the contest, I glued myself to both my blank and to myself while making the blank. (And then went out and bought gloves for next time)
PEN 4

Artist Statement: Not only my first contest entry at the site, but my first ever pen! Learned a ton on just this attempt. Can only get better here!
PEN 5

Artist Statement: Blank Used: Lava Bright Classis 2 Pure White w/ Black from PSI. You said we couldn't use the Center band, so I turned the center band as part of the top half. I used the Indexing on my Lath to cut a HEX shape for the center. It is within 0.001 tolerance from side to side. The nib and pen is also 0.001 tolerance. I went a step further and I also did not use the end cap that came with the kit. Instead I turned down a nut and pressed it into the end so I could use a matching #6 Philips screw into the end to hold the clip (presumably screwing into the center band "hex nut").
PEN 6

Artist Statement: I am very new to pen turning, touched my first lathe this Christmas. This project is a kit and blank from Penn state with a center band from the seconds barrel at woodcraft. Black Funline style pen, Red Heart with Pink Ivory center band. Finished with 6 coats of Tripoli and 24 coats of pure carnauba wax.
PEN 7

Artist Statement: Stabilized Burl Pen
PEN 8

Artist Statement: I've attached three photos of a Slimline pen with a custom made center band for the Turning Challenged contest. This is my fifth pen and one of the nicest I've made so far. I made the blank from a block of spalted flame box elder. Thanks for the opportunity to be in this contest!
PEN 9

Artist Statement: Pen is a Dayacom Titanium and Black Slimline. It is made from Ebony, which has been segmented with Purpleheart and aluminum. The center band was made by segmenting Purpleheart and Poplar. Finish was may layers of CA, then sanded and polished.
PEN 10

Artist Statement: Attached are photos of my entry for the contest. Thanks!
