I recently had someone ask me if it would be possible to make a pen using all or jaw bone from a bear that their grandfather had killed. I don't think it is thick enough to be the only material used but I am considering using some of it in a segmentation. Has anyone tried turning a jaw bone before I take my bandsaw to their trophy?

I have turned alligator jaw bones ... but they were cast in acrylic. An easy turn in that form.

Read up a bit on the use of bone before getting frisky with the bandsaw. Cleaning and preparation (other than drying) will be important.

Doable but the jaw is not solid bone mass all the way through.

Maneater Blanks sells Gator Jawbone. First they have to be clean of grease and oil then he stabilizes them. When that's done he casts them in resin. The bone will turn the same as antler or any other bone related item. The problem is the bone density. Some are poruos and some dense. It would be easier to segment the bone then during the finishing process fill any voids with C.A. and polish.
