I am now feeling a little better and have tried to get the feel back for turning. Not as steady as I should be, blowing up lots of nice wood. Now started just working on some scrap and doing some spindles and who knows what else it will be to see if I can get the grove back. Really I have to since I have so much invested in wood and parts, my girlfriend would kill me if she ever thought I was stopping or really found out how much I have spent.

Dave not sure what you want to hear. Those are individual things that people go through. Walk away for abit. Try another hobby. Sometimes if you look at some eye candy from different turners or go to some shows the fire returns. Everyone is different. Turn a pen or 2. Do some segmenting. I always am pushing segmenting. Not enough is done here on this site at all. Makes for some real nice blanks.

Dave,

It sounds like you are on the right path. Trying turning some simple things first before using good stuff makes sense. If you use a mandrel, try drilling out just for the mandrel ( no tubes) and toss the wood right on knowing there is no pressure to fail. Part of it is that if your body has changed you need to retrain your body and brain how to make the motions appropriate to how your body is now, not how is was.

With a little patience and practice, I'm sure you'll be ready for those more expensive woods soon!

I know the feeling. It takes practice and patience. The good thing about pens is that there's no rush. You can start and stop when you want to. If you feel like turning do it if not you can stop and return whenever. I thing the main thing is that if it's a hobbie enjoy it life has too many frustrations of its own. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the thoughts. I did not expect anything, just a little self pitty after putting in hours of work only to see the splinters when I was finished. I love working with wood, and it was so relaxing and rewarding. However after my illness, on little tremor or twitch and it is going. So I guess it was just a little rant at myself. I really thought I was back to norma, and found out my body had other ideas.
