Truestone Question

I have never turned a truestone blank and I need to
my question is can I do it with normal tools (aka skew,gouge)
are there any tips or tricks to this
I have turned pr and wood blanks only

I've not turned that exact one, but the ones I have turned have been fine with regular tools like you mention. They went dull on me very quickly, though, so sharpen often.

Yes you can use a skew. The real key would be to sharpen frequently and take very light cuts. Plan on it to take you a while and to do a lot of sharpening. Take your time and do not get agressive.

Make it a little easier on yourself---take the corners off the square blank on your sanding station (if you have one).

Once the blank is round, turning with a skew is fairly easy and yes, sharpen often.

BTW---if it takes a long time, stop before you get to the "final turns". Take a break. I have ruined more pens because I kept turning after I reached the "I'll get this darn thing done" stage.

When it is fun, things "go better".
